Privacy Policy

Dokumen LLC (“Dokumen,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) understands that the immigration process often requires individuals and families to provide highly personal and sensitive information. Protecting that information is an important part of earning and maintaining your trust.

This Privacy Policy explains how Dokumen collects, uses, discloses, stores, and otherwise processes personal information when you access or use our websites, applications, document-preparation tools, questionnaires, account features, support services, and related offerings (collectively, the “Services”). It also describes certain choices and rights that may be available to you under applicable privacy laws.

Dokumen is a private technology company that provides software-assisted document preparation and related support services. Dokumen is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice or legal representation.

If a service includes review or other legal services by an independent attorney, those services are provided by the attorney under a separate agreement. The identity of the attorney’s client, the scope of the attorney’s services, and the nature of any attorney-client relationship are governed solely by that separate agreement. Dokumen does not independently determine or expand the attorney’s representation.

This policy applies to individuals who visit or use the Services, including account holders, petitioners, applicants, beneficiaries, sponsors, household members, and other individuals whose information may be submitted through the Services. Acknowledging this policy does not constitute consent to every use of information described here.

Dokumen is based in the United States. Personal information may be processed and stored in the United States and in other locations where our service providers operate, subject to applicable law.

Questions regarding this policy may be directed to [email protected].

1. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you use the Services, the documents you are preparing, and the features you use.

A. Personal information and identifiers

We may collect personal information such as:

  • Full legal name and other names used
  • Date of birth
  • Mailing and residential addresses
  • Email address and telephone number
  • Country of birth, citizenship, or nationality
  • Social Security number, where required for the requested immigration documents
  • Alien Registration Number (A-Number), USCIS Online Account Number, or similar government-issued identifiers
  • Passport and government identification information
  • Account login information

We use this information to maintain your account, prepare documents requested through the Services, communicate with you, and provide related functionality. When you sign in with Google, we receive account information used to authenticate you, including your name, email address, and Google account identifier. If you use email and password authentication, we process your credentials to create and secure your account.

B. Immigration and case information

When you use our guided questionnaires or document-preparation tools, we may collect information concerning your immigration history and circumstances, including:

  • Current or prior immigration status
  • Visa classification
  • Admission or parole information and I-94 information
  • Dates and locations of U.S. entries and departures
  • Prior immigration filings
  • Prior USCIS or Department of State decisions
  • Immigration document history
  • Marital history and family relationships
  • Information about spouses, children, parents, or dependents
  • Residential, employment, educational, and travel history
  • Information relevant to sponsorship or affidavit-of-support documentation

The specific information collected depends on the forms you prepare and the services you use.

C. Sensitive personal information

Because immigration filings can require sensitive information, Dokumen may process information that may be considered sensitive under applicable privacy laws.

This may include:

  • Social Security numbers
  • Alien Registration Numbers
  • Passport numbers and government identification information
  • Immigration status and immigration history
  • Financial and tax information
  • Detailed residential information
  • Family and dependent information
  • Information contained in uploaded identity or immigration documents

We use sensitive personal information only for purposes reasonably related to providing, securing, and administering the Services, and meeting our legal obligations.

We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you for advertising or unrelated profiling.

D. Uploaded documents and supporting evidence

You may upload copies, scans, photographs, or electronic versions of documents through the Services, alongside questionnaire answers and declarations.

These may include:

  • Passports, visas, and I-94 records
  • Birth certificates and marriage certificates
  • Divorce or termination-of-marriage records
  • Immigration notices
  • Employment records
  • Tax returns, W-2s, or other tax documents
  • Pay statements and bank or financial records
  • Evidence of shared residence or finances
  • Photographs and affidavits
  • Identity documents
  • Other evidence used in connection with an immigration filing

We may use uploaded documents to organize your application materials, generate checklists or filing packets, facilitate document review, and provide the Services you request.

Upload electronic copies through the Services; do not send irreplaceable original physical documents to Dokumen.

E. Payment and transaction information

Stripe processes payments and collects payment details, such as billing and payment-method information, through its checkout service. Dokumen retains transaction-related records needed to administer purchases, such as purchase history, amount paid, payment status, and checkout or payment identifiers, as well as records relating to refunds or payment disputes when applicable.

Dokumen does not collect or store full payment card numbers or CVV security codes through its own forms. Stripe processes payment information according to its own privacy and security practices.

F. Technical and usage information

When you access the Services, we and our service providers may automatically collect technical information such as:

  • IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Approximate geographic information derived from IP address
  • Pages viewed and referral URL
  • Session information and date and time of access
  • Interactions with website features
  • Form or questionnaire progress
  • Error and diagnostic information

We use this information for security, fraud prevention, analytics, troubleshooting, product development, and performance monitoring.

G. Communications and support information

If you contact Dokumen, we may collect the information contained in your communication, including emails, customer-support requests, messages, feedback, survey responses, complaint information, and account information provided during support interactions.

We use this information to respond to requests, administer the Services, resolve issues, improve our product and support experience, and maintain appropriate business records.

2. Cookies, analytics, and similar technologies

Dokumen uses browser local storage to maintain signed-in sessions and account information. Clearing this storage may sign you out. We and our service providers may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Services, remember preferences, improve security, understand how users interact with the Services, and measure website and product performance.

We use Google Tag Manager across our website to manage tools that measure website use. We also use Google Analytics, when enabled, on selected public pages, including eligibility questionnaires and checkout pages. Tools managed through Google Tag Manager may operate on other pages as well.

These technologies may process information such as:

  • IP address
  • Device or browser identifiers
  • Browser information
  • Pages viewed and referral source
  • Session information
  • Interaction and usage information

Analytics information may be aggregated or pseudonymized where appropriate. Third-party analytics providers process information according to their own terms and privacy policies.

You may be able to limit certain cookies and browser storage through your browser settings or other privacy tools. Disabling them may affect how parts of the Services work.

Do Not Track

Some browsers provide a “Do Not Track” or similar setting. Dokumen does not currently respond to browser-based Do Not Track signals except where required by applicable law.

Global Privacy Control

Where applicable law requires Dokumen to recognize a legally valid opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control (“GPC”), we will honor such signals in accordance with applicable law and our data practices. You can also contact [email protected] about privacy choices.

3. How we use personal information

Dokumen may use personal information for the following purposes.

A. Providing the Services

We use information you provide to operate the Services and generate documents based on the information and selections you submit.

This may include completing supported forms and preparing related materials for the service you choose.

Dokumen’s document-generation process depends on the information provided by users. Users are responsible for reviewing generated documents and confirming that the information they contain is complete and accurate before signing or submitting them.

B. Organizing documents and application materials

We may use uploaded documents and questionnaire responses to:

  • Organize supporting evidence
  • Create document checklists
  • Identify missing items based on the selected workflow
  • Generate cover materials
  • Assemble application-related materials
  • Allow users to review or download generated documents

C. Facilitating independent attorney services

If the service you choose includes independent attorney review or other professional review, we may disclose information necessary for that review to authorized reviewers.

The information disclosed may include:

  • Questionnaire answers and declarations
  • Generated forms
  • Uploaded documents
  • Supporting evidence
  • Communications relevant to the review

Any legal advice, legal judgment, or legal representation is provided solely by the independent attorney under the attorney’s separate engagement agreement.

Dokumen does not independently define whom the attorney represents or the scope of the attorney’s professional obligations.

D. Processing payments

We may use transaction information to process purchases, confirm payment status, provide access to purchased Services, issue receipts, handle refunds, prevent fraud, and resolve payment disputes.

E. Communicating with you

We may use your contact information to send account notifications, service updates, questionnaire reminders, payment confirmations, security alerts, document-preparation notifications, customer-support messages, and notices of changes to our policies or Services.

Certain operational communications are necessary to administer your account and may not be subject to marketing opt-out preferences.

We may separately send educational or promotional communications where permitted by law. You may unsubscribe from non-essential marketing communications using the unsubscribe mechanism provided in those communications.

F. Improving and developing the Services

We may analyze usage information to understand how users navigate the Services, improve user experience, identify confusing or inefficient workflows, diagnose technical problems, evaluate feature performance, develop new functionality, and improve system reliability and accessibility.

Where appropriate, we may use aggregated or de-identified information that does not reasonably identify an individual.

G. Security, fraud prevention, and abuse prevention

We may process information to authenticate users, detect unauthorized access, identify suspicious activity, prevent fraud, investigate abuse, protect our systems, enforce our Terms & Conditions, and protect users and third parties.

H. Legal and compliance purposes

We may process or disclose information as reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law; respond to lawful subpoenas, court orders, warrants, or government requests; establish or defend legal claims; investigate suspected fraud or misconduct; enforce agreements; protect the rights, property, or safety of Dokumen, users, or others; and complete corporate transactions.

4. How we share personal information

Dokumen does not sell personal information for monetary consideration.

We disclose personal information only in circumstances reasonably related to providing and operating the Services, complying with law, or as otherwise described below.

A. Service providers

We may disclose personal information to companies that provide services on our behalf, such as:

  • Cloud hosting providers
  • Payment processors
  • Authentication providers, including Google
  • Email delivery providers
  • Analytics providers
  • Security and fraud-prevention providers
  • Customer-support platforms
  • Document-generation or storage infrastructure
  • Business software providers

These providers may access information as reasonably necessary to perform services for Dokumen, subject to applicable contractual and legal obligations.

B. Independent attorneys

If you use a service involving an independent attorney, we may provide that attorney with the information reasonably necessary to perform the requested services, including uploaded documents and supporting evidence.

The attorney’s use, retention, and protection of information may also be governed by the attorney’s professional obligations, applicable rules of professional conduct, the attorney’s privacy practices, and your separate engagement agreement with the attorney.

C. Legal authorities

We may disclose information where required or permitted by law, including in response to subpoenas, court orders, warrants, government requests, law-enforcement requests, and regulatory obligations.

We may also disclose information where reasonably necessary to investigate fraud, security incidents, unlawful activity, or violations of our agreements.

D. Business transactions

Personal information may be disclosed or transferred in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, sale of assets, bankruptcy, change of control, or similar corporate transaction.

Where required by law, we will provide appropriate notice regarding material changes to the handling of personal information.

E. With your direction or consent

We may disclose information when you ask or authorize us to do so. Examples may include requesting that Dokumen provide documents or information to an attorney, translator, financial sponsor, other professional, or third-party service selected by you.

5. Sale, sharing, and advertising

Dokumen does not sell personal information for monetary consideration. Dokumen does not currently use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We use service providers and analytics technologies, including Google Analytics, to understand how people use the Services and improve their experience.

Depending on the technology used, how it is configured, and applicable law, certain disclosures involving analytics or advertising technologies may be treated as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under particular privacy laws.

If Dokumen becomes subject to a law that gives users the right to opt out of such sale or sharing, we will provide the legally required mechanisms and honor qualifying opt-out preference signals as required by applicable law.

We will update this policy if our advertising or data-sharing practices materially change.

6. Data retention

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or as otherwise permitted or required by law.

The retention period may depend on factors including:

  • Whether your account remains active
  • Whether you are still preparing your immigration documents
  • The nature of the information
  • Whether professional review is involved and its status
  • The need to maintain transaction and financial records
  • Fraud-prevention and security requirements
  • Potential or actual disputes
  • Legal, tax, accounting, or regulatory obligations

Questionnaire responses, generated forms, uploaded documents, and related account records may remain available while your account or case remains active.

After a case is completed or becomes inactive, some information may be retained for legitimate business, legal, security, tax, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, or compliance purposes.

When information is no longer reasonably necessary, we may delete, anonymize, de-identify, or securely dispose of it, subject to applicable law and technical limitations.

Information deleted from active systems may remain in backups until those backups are overwritten or deleted through applicable backup-retention processes. Aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be linked to you may be retained for a longer period.

Questions concerning retention may be directed to [email protected].

7. Your privacy rights and choices

Depending on where you reside and which privacy laws apply to Dokumen and your information, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information. Not every right described below applies in every circumstance.

A. Access and review

You may be able to access information associated with your account by logging into the Services. You may also contact us to request details about the personal information we maintain about you, where required by applicable law.

B. Correction

You may correct certain information through your account or questionnaire where editing is available. You may also contact us if you believe information maintained by Dokumen is inaccurate.

Because generated government documents may depend directly on user-provided information, users should carefully review their information before finalizing, signing, or submitting any immigration document.

C. Deletion

You may request deletion of your account or personal information by contacting [email protected].

We may retain information where necessary or permitted for purposes such as legal compliance, tax or accounting obligations, fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution, enforcement of agreements, and establishing or defending legal claims.

Deletion from active systems may not immediately remove information from backup systems.

D. Communication choices

You may opt out of non-essential promotional or marketing communications using the unsubscribe mechanism in those communications. You may continue to receive operational communications concerning your account, transactions, security, service changes, documents, and legal notices.

E. California privacy rights

To the extent the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended (“CCPA”), or similar California privacy laws apply to Dokumen and your information, California residents may have rights including the right to:

  • Know or access certain personal information
  • Request correction
  • Request deletion
  • Receive information concerning categories of data collected and disclosed
  • Opt out of certain sales or sharing
  • Limit certain uses of sensitive personal information where applicable
  • Exercise privacy rights without unlawful discrimination

Some of these rights apply only when specific legal thresholds or circumstances are met.

F. Other jurisdictions

If another privacy law applies to you, such as the European Union or United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation, additional rights may be available, including rights relating to access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, data portability, and withdrawal of consent.

These rights apply only to the extent required by applicable law.

G. Submitting a privacy request

Privacy requests may be submitted to [email protected].

We may need to verify your identity before processing certain requests. Where legally permitted or required, we may request additional information reasonably necessary to verify that the request concerns your information.

We will respond within the time required by applicable law. Dokumen will not unlawfully discriminate against an individual for exercising an applicable privacy right.

8. Data security

Dokumen uses administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, destruction, or misuse.

These measures include account authentication and role-based access controls. Other safeguards may relate to secure transmission, infrastructure and hosting security, monitoring and logging, backups, vendor security practices, and internal access limitations. The specific safeguards used may vary depending on the type of information, the relevant system, and the nature of the risk.

Access to personal information is intended to be limited to individuals or service providers with a legitimate business need. Users are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their login credentials and for using appropriate security practices.

No website, application, database, or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

If Dokumen becomes aware of a security incident involving personal information, we will investigate the incident and provide notifications where required by applicable law.

If you believe your account or information has been compromised, contact [email protected].

9. Information about children and dependents

Dokumen accounts and Services are intended for use by adults who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly permit children under 18 to independently create Dokumen accounts.

However, immigration matters frequently involve children, dependents, or derivative applicants. An adult account holder may therefore provide information about a child where that information is reasonably necessary for the requested immigration document preparation service and the adult has authority to provide it.

Such information may include:

  • Name, date of birth, and place of birth
  • Citizenship and immigration information
  • Relationship information
  • Identity documents
  • Other information required by applicable government forms

We process information concerning children only in connection with the Services requested by an adult account holder or as otherwise permitted by applicable law. The protections described in this policy also apply to children’s information submitted by adults.

If you believe a child has independently provided personal information to Dokumen without appropriate authorization, contact [email protected].

10. Third-party websites and services

The Services may link to websites, resources, or services operated by third parties. These may include U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the U.S. Department of State, payment processors, attorneys, translation providers, government agencies, educational resources, and other third-party service providers.

Dokumen does not control the privacy practices or content of independent third-party websites or services. When you interact directly with a third party, that third party’s privacy policy and terms apply to information it collects from you.

A link or reference to a third-party service does not necessarily constitute an endorsement or guarantee by Dokumen. Where a third party acts as a service provider to Dokumen, information disclosed to that provider is handled as described in this policy and applicable contractual arrangements.

11. International users and U.S. data processing

Dokumen is based in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, processed in, or stored in the United States or other jurisdictions where Dokumen or its service providers operate.

Privacy and data-protection laws in those jurisdictions may differ from the laws of your country. Where legally required, Dokumen will use appropriate mechanisms or safeguards for international transfers of personal information.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to the Services, our business practices, technologies, vendors, legal requirements, or how personal information is collected, used, or disclosed.

When this policy is updated, we will revise the effective date shown at the top. If a change materially affects how personal information is used or disclosed, we may provide additional notice through email, an account notification, an in-product notice, or a prominent website notice. We will provide additional notice where required by law.

Your continued use of the Services after an updated policy takes effect does not replace any consent or other requirement imposed by applicable law. We encourage users to review this policy periodically.

13. Contact us

If you have questions, concerns, complaints, or requests regarding this policy or Dokumen’s privacy practices, contact Dokumen LLC at [email protected].

When submitting a privacy request, please provide enough information for us to understand and respond to your request.

For security reasons, please do not send Social Security numbers, passwords, full payment card information, or other highly sensitive information by ordinary email. If such information is needed, request a secure method for providing it.

Terms & Conditions

These terms govern your use of the website and services provided by Dokumen LLC (“Dokumen,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms.

1. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement to create an account or purchase our service. Provide accurate account information and keep it current.

You are responsible for protecting your sign-in credentials and for activity you authorize through your account. Do not share access with unauthorized people. Contact [email protected] promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.

2. Our services and professional review

Dokumen provides software-assisted document preparation and related support services. Depending on the service you choose, features may include guided questionnaires, document organization, document generation, and professional review. The features and scope of each service are described in the applicable service offering.

Dokumen LLC is not a law firm or a government agency and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency. Our software and general website information are not a substitute for advice from a licensed attorney.

If a service includes review or advice from an independent attorney, any attorney-client relationship and the scope of the attorney’s services are governed by a separate agreement with that attorney. Using Dokumen does not, by itself, establish an attorney-client relationship.

Document preparation, eligibility screening, and professional review do not guarantee that an application will be accepted or approved, that it will be processed within a particular time, or that it will achieve a particular outcome. Decisions remain with the relevant government agency or other recipient.

3. Your information and filing responsibilities

Provide complete, accurate, and current answers, declarations, and supporting documents. Do not submit false or misleading information. If you submit information about a spouse, child, sponsor, or another person, you must have authority to provide it and permit its use for the service.

Review all prepared forms and materials for accuracy and completeness, including names, dates, answers, signatures, and supporting evidence. Tell us about errors or changes before filing. You remain responsible for the information in your application, obtaining required signatures, filing your documents, paying government fees, and meeting applicable deadlines.

4. Fees, payments, and billing inquiries

The price, payment terms, and included features of a paid service are presented before you purchase it. Government filing fees and other third-party charges are separate from Dokumen’s service fees unless expressly stated otherwise. Payments are processed through third-party payment providers, including Stripe.

For questions about charges, billing, cancellation, or refunds, contact [email protected]. These terms do not limit any rights you may have under applicable law.

5. Acceptable use

Use the service only for lawful purposes. Do not impersonate others, submit fraudulent materials, access another person’s account or case without authorization, interfere with the service, introduce malicious code, bypass access controls, or attempt to extract other users’ information.

6. Ownership and permission to process materials

You retain your rights in the answers, documents, and other materials you submit. You give Dokumen permission to store, copy, process, and share those materials with service providers and authorized reviewers as needed to provide and support the service, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Dokumen and its licensors retain their rights in the software, website design, branding, and original content. You may use the service and your prepared documents for the purposes covered by the service you purchase or use. These terms do not transfer ownership of Dokumen’s software or restrict rights in government forms or other public materials.

7. Suspension and termination

We may restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to address misuse, unauthorized access, threats to service security, or violations of these terms. We may terminate access for serious or repeated misuse.

You may stop using the service or request account termination by contacting [email protected]. For related billing questions, contact us at the same email address. Data retention and deletion are described in the Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to the service or terms

We may update the service and these terms. Revised terms will be posted here with an updated effective date, and we will provide additional notice where required by law. Changes do not remove rights you have under applicable law. Contact us if you have questions about a change affecting your purchase.
